چکیده

Introduction: Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE-) MRI has become a valuable tool in the assessment of tumors and in the evaluation of the effects of treatment. Kinetic modeling with two or three (including tumor vascular component vp) compartments is commonly used to measure the parameter K, a first order rate constant that describes tumor perfusion and vascular permeability. In its calculation, the flip angles used for DCE-MRI and for computing the tumor’s intrinsic T1 (if variable flip angle (VFA) technique is used), must be known. However, flip angle inaccuracies can often occur due to inhomogeneous RF fields and slice profile effects [1]. The goal of our current work is to evaluate to what extent deviations in flip angle can occur in a large FOV DCE-MRI protocol and determine how those variations affect the measurement accuracy of perfusion parameters (K, ve).

Effect of Bias in Contrast Agent Concentration Measurement on Estimated Pharmacokinetic Parameters in Brain Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging Studies

Introduction: Pharmacokinetic (PK) modeling of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is widely applied in tumor diagnosis and treatment evaluation. Precision analysis of the estimated PK parameters is essential when they are used as a measure for therapy evaluation or treatment planning. In this study, the accuracy of PK parameters in brain DCE...

Non-invasive quantification of liver fat content by different Gradient Echo MRI sequences in patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Introduction: Non-invasive quantification of liver fat by Gradient echo (GRE) Technique is an interesting issue in quantitative MRI. Despite the numerous advantages of this technique, fat measurement maybe biased by confounding and effects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the GRE pulse sequences with different   and  weighting for liver fat quantification in patients with...

Transmit B1+ field inhomogeneity and T1 estimation errors in breast DCE-MRI at 3 tesla.

PURPOSE To quantify B1+ variation across the breasts and to evaluate the accuracy of precontrast T1 estimation with and without B1+ variation in breast MRI patients at 3 Tesla (T). MATERIALS AND METHODS B1+ and variable flip angle (VFA) T1 mapping were included in our dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) breast imaging protocol to study a total of 25 patients on a 3.0T GE MR 750 system. We compute...

Enhanced perfusion measurement accuracy in DCE-MRI via improved baseline signal estimation

Introduction: Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE-) MRI plays an increasingly important role in evaluating tumor perfusion and permeability of the microvascular wall. A spoiled gradient echo sequence is used to measure T1 changes in tumor tissue and its arterial blood supply induced by the contrast agent. However, since TR is typically much shorter than T1 of blood (~1200ms) and tumor tissues (~500-...

Dynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors

Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...
